Back to Building Progress

After flying for over 100 hours on the Vans foam cushions, I finally got the plane into a local interior shop to have the seats covered and carpet installed.

I wanted my interior to be a little unique, and I chose leather that had a distressed look.  I always liked the look of vintage airplanes with leather seats that look like they've been well used.

I also didn't want to start with pristine leather that would quickly show its age because you have to step on the seats to enter and exit the airplane.

I originally talked to Signature Flight Design at Sun-n-Fun and became interested because they were located at Dallas Executive Airport, just a short distance away.  However, they had never done seats for an RV... they primarily work on larger, certified aircraft.

I took my seat cushions, and 2 leather hides I had obtained to them.  The pictures show the magic they did to help complete my interior.  Since they used my airplane as a "template" to create the seats and carpet, they'll be able to make seats for other RVs without requiring the airplane or seat foam.

As you can see, the Vans foam was modified quite a bit to make the seats much more supportive and comfortable.  And they ARE comfortable.  They also made two boosters for each seat so the height is adjustable.

The carpet is beautifully fitted, and the edges are finished.  They added some additional foam to the floors so the carpet lies flat across the center section.  I noticed the plane is quieter with the additional insulation and carpet under my feet too.  There is also a piece of carpet in the baggage area.

I think I'll take the airplane back and get a piece of carpet fitted for the floor area around the seats.  This will really give it a finished look.
