How long did it take?

Aircraft construction takes a long, long time. Not only does it take a lot of hours, but a significant commitment to devote the time to see the project through. It also takes a certain level of understanding from family and friends that you're going to be in the garage "working on the plane again" instead of spending time with them. It helps if they enjoy working on the plane with you.

My estimate was that it would take me around 750-1000 hours for the kit I built.. (Quickbuild fuselage, standard wing kit) It ended up taking around 1200-1300 hours over 26 months. It is not uncommon for the older (non pre-punched) kits to take upwards of 2000 hours to complete.
